The E.C.C.O. Bureau and Committee met on 12 - 13 June in Zürich. The next Bureau and Committee meeting will be held on 9 - 10 October 2004 in Monte Estoril, Portugal
Below is a summary of what was discussed in Zürich:
Report by the President The President noted that many postive developments have taken place the last couple of months. Several contacts were intensified and collaboration with other organisations in the field were very fruitful. All were encouraged to keep up the good work and to maintain our roles of advocates of the profession. There is a need to keep the public informed about who we are and what we do and that we stand for quality and not primarily for protection. We all should be aware not to isolate ourselves but to be open and accessible. The President gave notice of the birth of Hannah Reed, daughter of Committee member Tanja Roskar Reed, the night prior to the committee meeting. We all congratulate Tanja and her family. Committee member Natalie Ellwanger was warmly thanked for the splendid organisation of this meeting at the beautiful Villa Tobler, belonging to the Kunsthaus Zürich.
Application of new members Thanks to the intensified contact with East European countries, set up by Committee member Edith Touré, two organisations asked for the ECCO application form and it is expected that their application can be discussed at the coming Bureau and Committee meeting in October. Another contact was set up by Committee member Monica Martelli Castaldi, who was present at the ICOM-CC Legislation meeting in Athens, with the result that a Greak association showed interest in becoming member of ECCO.
Collaboration of E.C.C.O. and ICOM-CC Committee member Monica Martelli Castaldi gave a lecture at the ICOM-CC Legislation meeting at 20 - 24 April in Athens. All attendents were very interested in the report she gave on the APEL project and the preliminary plans to proceed and up date the project. Monica set up important contacts and maintains the contact with the ICOM-CC Legislation workinggroup. She also noted that ICOM-CC is very interested to keep in touch with other international and European organisations, an initiative that was greatly supported and found likewise important by the ECCO Bureau and Committee. Besides that, Monica has been in contact with ICCROM who are also interested in closer contact, especially regarding legislation.
E.C.C.O. and ENCoRE and profile of the profession Referring to the ECCO Short News of last April, it was decided to have the profile of the cons/rest set up in collaboration with ENCoRE. The profile is needed to start an effective European lobby concerning the European Directive for Professional Qualifications. ENCoRE will be primarily responsible for the writing of the training program of the cons/rest, ECCO is in first instance responsible for the writing of knowledge and skills and activities of the cons/rest. Cornelia Weyer already send out a request to all delegates to have their national profiles translated into an English summary and send to her. Cornelia received six profiles and three answers that such a national profiles does not exist. Please react to Cornelia her email if you not have already done so. The summaries and profiles thus gathered will be the framework for the ECCO profile. The Committee plans to have a draft profile in autumn this year in order to have a final profile ready for the next GA to be voted upon. ENCoRE also hopes to have the same profile adopted by their GA in beginning 2005. In April 2005, a seminar is planned in Strassbourg to present the profile to the Council of Europe. Both Cornelia Weyer and Sabine Kessler are, for ECCO, in charge concerning the organisation of this seminar. The seminar will be organised in close collaboration with ENCoRE.
CEN Standardisation on Cultural Property The first CEN meeting took place on 21 June in Venice. Several National Standardisation Institutes sent delegates to this meeting. Some national associations have not yet decided the extent or nature of their involvement in the project. Please note that the ECCO Committee would very much like to be kept informed about all developments, please send information about the project from CEN or your National Standardisation Institute to Tanja Roskar Reed.
Survey on rates in Europe The second questionnaire, as reported in the ECCO Short news of last April, has been finalised and ready to send out to all delegates. The questionnaire can be filled out anonymously and all are asked to return it before 31 of July, as described in the accompanying letter. The Committee is looking forward to all answers because they will represent a clear picture on the European situation of used rates and salaries for cons/rest. Please cooperate and try to have as many questionnaires filled out as possible. Website Please remind the change of address of the ECCO and APEL websites: http://www.ecco-eu.info http:/www.apel-eu.info The websites are still under contruction and Tanja Roskar Reed will maintain the sites. Please send your news and items for the calendar to her!
E.C.C.O. Folder The ECCO Committee was very pleased to have the ECCO Folder printed and ready. All members received an amount of copies, at least equal to their number of full members. This folder is supposed to be widely distributed and more copies can be ordered with Edith Touré. Edith was thanked for all the splendid work she put into the realisation of this folder.
E.C.C.O. Reports Natalie Ellwanger is now coordinator of the ECCO Reports, please send your national report before 1 September to her! Any help in raising advertisers is welcome, Natalie can supply you with a standard letter. All delegates will receive the ordering form for extra copies along with the contribution payment.
The publishing of the ECCO Official Documents, containing the Statutes and Guidelines, is still ongoing because some translations are not yet finished. The cover design was already presented at the GA and the Committee strives to have them published in autumn this year.
